Chinatown/International District, Seattle WA 98104

On a hillside in Seattle WA the Danny Woo Urban Garden has 1.5 acres and supports 70 plus families in this green space. The garden, one of InterIm’s projects of sustainability, affordable housing and neighborhood preservation in the Chinatown/ International District. The Garden has existed for 34 years.

The Urban Chicken Coop will be 5 x 20 ft. with a green roof and solar panels. The chickens will be used to support fresh organic egg production, an educational tool to teach children about where their food comes from and efficient composting process to turn the over abundant garden waste into a high nitrogen on –site source of fertilizer for the gardeners.

It will serve as a model for suitability: provident a local source of protein to a low income population.

The building of the CISTERN will support the 100 garden plots as it holds the winter rain water to feed the garden in the dry summer months. It will reduce need for city water and also help reduce city runoff.

These additions to the already productive Urban Garden increases the gardens self-sufficiency in the type of food generated and the amendments required. If awarded the grant the project construction would begin immediately.

Project Cost:
Henspa Deluxe Chicken Coop: $ 3000.00
80 Watt Solar Energy system with Xantres 1500 995.00
