Meet the Green Effect Judges

In July, a panel of five judges—each chosen for their involvement in the green community—will choose four of the five final Green Effect winners. (See judging criteria.) The fifth winner will be chosen by online voters. All five winners will be announced July 22, 2009.

National Geographic's Boyd Matson is host of the two-hour, weekend radio show National Geographic Weekend, now in its second season. Conducting interviews live in-studio and from the field, Matson connects with some of the greatest explorers on the planet to transport listeners to the far corners of the world and to the hidden corners of their own backyards.

Matson, no stranger to the world of adventure and exploration, brings more than 30 years of journalistic experience to National Geographic Weekend. He has traveled on assignment to all seven continents, participated in high-adrenaline adventures and witnessed amazing natural history and anthropology events.

Prior to hosting National Geographic Weekend, Matson hosted the National Geographic Television-produced public television series Wild Chronicles. Matson also served as longtime host of the award-winning series National Geographic EXPLORER.

Before coming to National Geographic, Matson held several prominent television posts: co-anchor of World News Now (ABC), host of The Real Story for CNBC, correspondent for Real Life With Jane Pauley, co-anchor and weekly correspondent for USA Today On TV, original co-anchor of Sunday Today (NBC) and senior correspondent for Today (NBC).
